Working with artisans on this collection called Joyas del Crin means for me as a designer to value their art. We have built a deep and challenging collaboration with these practitioners of an ancestral craft that is more than 200 years old. The “La Vendimia” capazo is the union of two cultural heritages of Chile that are part of my own memory: the art of horsehair weaving and the tradition of the grape harvest. The harvest is one of the most important phases of winemaking, a festival that takes place at the beginning of the harvest between the months of March and April. In the Maule region it is celebrated in Curicó, with traditions related to the countryside. Nearby, in the foothills, is the town of Rari, where the horsehair artisans live, declared Living Human Treasures by the National Council of Culture and the Arts and UNESCO. They are the testimony of knowledge and traditions that keep our heritage and identity current. Their magical fingers weave the horsehair fibers around the ixtle plant fibers, which they use to give firmness to the structure of the fabric. Before, they used poplar roots that they extracted from the river, but modernity took away part of that history. Thus, I met María de Los Ángeles, an artisan who wove delicious bunches of grapes with her delicate hands.
Hand-woven natural straw Capazo . Two bunches of natural mane grapes. Beige satin lining that has fur pompoms at the ends. Horsehair charm made up of roses in brown tones, colored balls and balloons in earth tones to natural white. The composition ends with a beige horsehair chascón.
Each capazo is delivered in a bag that must be used for storage after each use. This helps protect it from possible damage and keep it in good condition. It is important to avoid exposing the capazo to the sun when not in use. Direct sunlight can cause discoloration and deterioration of the material.
It should not be submerged in water or come into contact with rain. It is also important not to overload it, since it is a delicate piece. The designer Isabel Margarita Vial will assist you personally if your capazo needs to be checked or restored indefinitely. To do this you can write to us through our contact form.
