This capazo is an offering, an amazing trip to Mexico and its deepest culture. An immersion into the Day of the Dead and the legacy of Frida Kahlo. I composed an art-fashion piece that theatrically represents this celebration, which is born from indigenous culture. For the Aztecs, death was only sporadic, since the souls of the deceased could return to visit the living. The offerings are related to earth, water, air and fire. Sweet skulls, bread of the dead, copal (incense to purify space), flowers that shine and illuminate the path of souls, as well as the velvet flower in vibrant red. The Day of the Dead and Frida are inseparable in Mexican culture. Much of his work is, precisely, a duality between life and death. In his paintings, life feeds on death, in an eternal life cycle. In the Blue House, where she lived with her great love, the muralist Diego Rivera, there is an installation created by none other than Jean Paul Gaultier, who was inspired by one of the iconic self-portraits she took, called “The Wounded Table.” ”. Frida said: “They thought I was a surrealist, but I wasn't. I never painted my dreams. I painted my own reality.”
Hand-woven and gold-dyed straw Capazo . Edge and handles crocheted with robust red wool. Composition full of symbols of the Day of the Dead celebration. Velvet tassels with various details in silver and gold (metallic hand of Fatima and skulls), plus handmade red flowers petal by petal in different reds. Under the handles, two red flower buttons with a resin calypso center. Hand-painted face with silk flower hair, rings of bells, medals and hearts. Two handmade toys with wool: a pink-red devil and a Catrina with black hair and a crocheted skirt. The lower area of the capazo is crocheted with red velvet wool. Charm with a handmade heart made of embroidered lency cloth in various colors, flowers and strips of beads. Finally, a large bunch of pom poms in pantone pink.
Each capazo is delivered in a bag that must be used for storage after each use. This helps protect it from possible damage and keep it in good condition. It is important to avoid exposing the capazo to the sun when not in use. Direct sunlight can cause discoloration and deterioration of the material.
It should not be submerged in water or come into contact with rain. It is also important not to overload it, since it is a delicate piece.
